A ship excursion is the easy option if you want everything booked on board; a private tour is better if you travel as a family or group and want your own pace, your own stops and a guide only for you. In Roatán, private tours with a local guide start from $35 to $130 per person, depending on the activities.
Roatán is small enough to see a lot in one day and big enough to make each day different. The real question is not where to go, but how you want to live that day: in a large group with a fixed schedule, or with your family at your own rhythm.
What is the difference?
- Ship excursion: booked through the cruise line, usually in larger groups and with a fixed itinerary.
- Private tour: only your group, with your own driver and local guide; you can stay longer where you like it and skip what you don't.
Is a private tour good for kids?
Yes. Our private tours welcome all ages. Children love the monkeys and sloths at Maya Eden and the calm water of West Bay Beach, and with your own guide you can stop for a snack, a bathroom or a nap whenever you need.
What about big groups?
Our bus carries 25 to 28 people, so a whole family reunion, a wedding group or friends from the same cabin deck can travel together. Larger groups are split into more vehicles, with the same plan for everyone.
How much does a private tour cost?
- Custom day you design: from $35 per person plus the activities you choose.
- Maya Eden, beach and history: from $75.
- Canopy zip line, Maya Eden and beach: from $95.
- Horseback riding, snorkeling and animal sanctuary: from $125.
- Private boat with starfish, shipwreck, mangroves and dolphins: from $130 (minimum 6 guests).
Who will be our guide?
Ronis Villeda, a local guide and artist who has worked on the island since 2007, known for the Roatan Fire Show and his sand sculptures. If you arrive by cruise ship, read our guide to the Roatan cruise ports first.
